where livestock buyers and sellers meet

Market Reports

As of January 28, 2022

Butcher cows traded at least $5-6 higher this week.  Good cows topped out at $83. Bulls were also $2-3 higher up to a high of $110.  Feeder cattle were relatively steady this week.  Grass weight steers and heifers continued to trade with excellent demand as local buyers are still active. Heavy feeders over 700 lbs were $2 lower this week. Feed prices continue to be the biggest stumbling block on why feeder cattle have not been higher. Many western feedlots are struggling to get grain that is necessary for their finishing rations.
Our next bred cow sale will be on Monday February 7th at 10am. We already have over 100 cows consigned including a good group of 35 black cows as well as a small dispersal of almost 40 cows. Just added we have another herd reduction due to lack of feed that will include a mix of Charolais and Black Angus cows bred char. Most cows are only coming to town due to being short on feed.

***WE REMIND PRODUCERS THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL NEW REGULATIONS ON SAFE AND HUMANE TRANSPORTATION OF ANIMALS TO BE AWARE OF.  CULL COWS WITH PEAK LACTATION AND LARGE UDDERS ARE CONSIDERED COMPROMISED UNDER THESE NEW RULES. ALSO ANY ANIMALS THAT ARE LAME, BLIND, CARRYING RUPTURES ARE ALSO CONSIDERED COMPROMISED. SUCH ANIMALS WILL B TO FINES IF DETECTED BY CFIA AT ALL AUCTION MARKETS.
