where livestock buyers and sellers meet

Market Reports

As of August 12, 2022

**PLEASE NOTE OUR NEXT CATTLE SALE ISNT UNTIL AUGUST 26th.**Butcher cows traded fully steady this week compared to 3 weeks ago. Top cows hit $104-110. Bulls were fully steady up to a top of $140 this week on lighter selection. With very few feeder cattle on hand it's difficult to quote all classes as some weight breaks didn't have anything to report. A few small groups of light heifers weighing 510-560 brought $216-219.50. A couple steers weighing 650 brought $227.50. We had a few Holstein bull calves on offer and they traded from 400-700 in the $115-130 range. Looking forward yearlings and calves should be selling much better than the last couple years.  Any cattle that were fleshy, plainer, late castrated, showing dairy, or horned were discounted quite heavily.  While the cattle market appears to be rebounding nicely the lamb and goat market appears to be moving lower. Eastern markets have been lower but there's solace in knowing there's lots of grass this year so producers will have plenty of feed for a lengthy pasture season.

***WE REMIND PRODUCERS THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL NEW REGULATIONS ON SAFE AND HUMANE TRANSPORTATION OF ANIMALS TO BE AWARE OF.  CULL COWS WITH PEAK LACTATION AND LARGE UDDERS ARE CONSIDERED COMPROMISED UNDER THESE NEW RULES. ALSO ANY ANIMALS THAT ARE LAME, BLIND, CARRYING RUPTURES ARE ALSO CONSIDERED COMPROMISED. SUCH ANIMALS WILL B TO FINES IF DETECTED BY CFIA AT ALL AUCTION MARKETS.
Please see the following regulations to know what is permitted.
