Butcher cows traded fully steady to $2 higher compared to last week. Top cows traded from $170-176. Good dairy cows traded from $150-160. Bulls traded fully steady with good bulls bringing $220-226. Feeder cattle are starting to show up at the sales barns but prices for yearlings are now trading $10-15 back from the peak sales that were reported in late spring and early summer. Fat cattle are getting tougher to move and feedlots aren't too excited about putting in expensive feeders. We had virtually no calves this week.

CULL COWS WITH PEAK LACTATION AND LARGE UDDERS ARE CONSIDERED COMPROMISED UNDER THES NEW RULES. ALSO ANY ANIMALS THAT ARE LAME, BLIND, CARRYING RUPTURES ARE ALSO CONSIDERED COMPROMISED. SUCH ANIMALS WILL BE SUBJECT TO FINES IF DETECTED BY CFIA AT ALL AUCTION MARKETS.

Horned cattle are beginning to be discounted more and more all the time. If you want your cattle to bring a premium price they must be horn free.
If you are planning on selling calves in the next month or so, please call ahead to book your cattle with us. If we know how many cattle are coming it allows us to inform buyers so they can have adequate trucks available.

A REMINDER TO PRODUCERS TO GET YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS FROM THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS GOING TO BECOME MANDATORY IN 2020. ALL PRODUCERS WILL NEED TO FILL OUT MANIFESTS WHENEVER THEY TRANSPORT CATTLE FROM HOME TO EITHER AUCTION MARTS OR PASTURES. THESE MANIFESTS WILL HAVE TO INCLUDE YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS AS PART OF THE NEW NATIONAL TRACIBILITY PROGRAM.
